KIDNEY DIALYSIS

Kidney failure, also known as renal failure, is a serious condition in which the kidneys lose their ability to effectively filter waste products and excess fluids from the blood. This loss of function can lead to dangerous levels of waste and electrolytes in the body, potentially resulting in life-threatening complications. Kidney failure can develop suddenly or progress gradually over time, depending on the underlying cause and overall health of the individual.

Chronic kidney disease progresses slowly over time, often taking years before kidney function reaches a critical point. CKD is usually caused by long-term health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease. When CKD reaches its advanced stage, it can lead to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), requiring long-term dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Type 2 diabetes is a widespread chronic illness, characterized by high blood sugar levels due to insulin resistance. Over time, poorly managed diabetes can lead to serious complications, one of the most significant being kidney failure. Diabetic kidney disease, also known as diabetic nephropathy, is a primary cause of kidney failure worldwide and results from prolonged high blood sugar levels that damage the kidneys’ filtering structures

Damage to Blood Vessels (Glomeruli): High blood sugar harms the tiny blood vessels in the kidneys called glomeruli, which are responsible for filtering blood. Over time, these blood vessels become scarred and weakened, reducing the kidneys’ ability to filter waste efficiently.

Increased Blood Pressure: Diabetes is often linked with high blood pressure (hypertension), which adds stress to the kidneys. High blood pressure can accelerate kidney damage and is a major contributor to diabetic nephropathy.

Protein Leakage (Proteinuria): As kidney damage worsens, the kidneys begin to leak protein (especially albumin) into the urine—a condition known as proteinuria. This protein loss is an early marker of diabetic kidney disease and a sign of declining kidney health.

Progressive Kidney Function Decline: Over time, as the kidneys continue to lose their filtering ability, waste products and toxins build up in the blood, leading to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and, ultimately, end-stage renal disease (ESRD)

HYPERTENSION

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, affects millions of people worldwide, yet many are unaware they even have it. Known as the "silent killer," hypertension often has no symptoms, but if left untreated, it can lead to severe health complications like heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. In this article, we’ll explore what hypertension is, its causes, symptoms, risk factors, and practical ways to manage and prevent it.

KIDNEY STONES

Kidney stones are solid masses made of crystals that originate in the kidneys but can develop anywhere along the urinary tract. They vary in size, from as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball. Depending on their size and location, they can pass through the urinary tract without causing issues or become lodged, leading to severe pain and other complications.

The kidneys have the crucial role of filtering waste products and balancing fluids in the blood. When the kidneys lose their function, usually due to conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes, or high blood pressure, waste products build up in the bloodstream, causing potentially life-threatening complications. Dialysis is a medical process that helps to filter the blood, remove waste, and maintain fluid and electrolyte balance when the kidneys cannot.
